A disciplined blackjack player pays roughly half what a baccarat player does. A blackjack player who guesses pays double — and the baccarat Tie costs more than either.
Why blackjack can be cheaper — or dearer
Blackjack is the only table game where your choices change the house edge. Every mistake — standing on 16 against a dealer 10, not splitting a pair of eights, taking insurance — adds a little cost. Small, repeated mistakes turn the cheapest game in the casino into one that costs more than baccarat. The fix is a chart: our complete basic strategy chart shows the best move for every hand.
Blackjack is also a little bumpier. Doubles and splits put more money on the table at the right moments, so session results swing further even though the average cost is low.
Why so many Asian players choose baccarat
Baccarat asks for no decisions once you pick a side. The dealer follows a fixed third-card rule, so there is no mistake you can make. It is rich in culture too: road boards, squeeze tables and a quick rhythm. For players who want a relaxed session without memorising a chart, Banker at about 1% is a very reasonable choice. Card counting: not practical in either
In baccarat, mathematical studies going back to the 1960s show that card counting yields only a tiny, rare advantage, even with a full shoe. In blackjack, counting does work in theory, but live tables deal from eight decks and change the shoe early. In both games, the realistic strategy is to pick the cheapest bet and control your stake size.
Which should you choose?
- Want the lowest cost and willing to learn: blackjack with basic strategy.
- Want to relax with no decisions: baccarat, on Banker or Player.
- In both: skip side bets and the Tie, keep a fixed stake, and set time and loss limits before you sit down.

Is blackjack easier to win than baccarat?
With basic strategy, blackjack has a lower house edge (about 0.5% against 1.06% for Banker). Without strategy, blackjack is usually more expensive. Within a single session, both still come down to luck.
Which baccarat bet is the cheapest?
Banker, at about 1.06% even after the 5% commission. Player is about 1.24%. The Tie and Pair bets cost far more.
Can I count cards in online baccarat?
Not in any practical way. Card counting has a tiny effect in baccarat, and live tables change the shoe before it could show.
